Smoking Tobacco

Spaceship engineer named Edward Adams has a serious problem with smoking and is showing effects from it. He is reluctant to go see a Doctor about it. Finally decides to go and get tested. The results show that he has a cancerous tumor on his right lung. The Doctor talks to him and his wife about the situation, informing him that this is the result of smoking and that he needs to stop immediately. The Doctor illustrates how the nicotine has severely damaged his right lung, and tells him that he needs to have part, or all of his right lung removed. You will be able to witness the surgery in detail, and see the part of the lung that was bad. The surgery is successful and he's on his way to living a normal life again.

Death In the West 28 min., color
This video is one of the most convincing anti-smoking films ever made. It juxtaposes the healthy independent image of the Marlborough Man, defended in unique interviews with cigarette company executives, with the stark reality of six smoking cowboysall dying of smokinginduced illnesses. The film is designed to do the following things:

The purpose is to take a realistic look at the results of cigarette smoking from a feminine point of view. This powerful indictment of America's most common addiction examines the changes that take place in a woman's body each time she smokes a cigarette. Monitoring of such vital systems as pulse rate, blood pressure and artery dilation after one cigarette graphically displays these changes. Tests conducted on a pregnant woman show that the fetal breathing movement stops each time she has a cigarette. This highly motivating story of one woman's battle with unrealistic fears shows how everyone can find the power to make needed changes. She finally packs her own chute and leaps out of a plane 3,000 feet over the ocean.

Free at Last 15 min. color
Lots of smokers think that they can just kick the habit anytime they want to. Unfortunately, what they don't realize is that it's harder than you think to stop smoking. This video tells how smoking has got started and has grown to the point where 4.1 trillion cigarettes are being produced each year while taking up 1.5 billion acres of land, which could be used to produce food for millions of starving people all over the world. They explain a stop-smoking program that was started by Elder Folkenberg. It shows how habits form and how the nerves work to make up our habits, therefore, by creating new habits you can refrain from smoking. They suggest that you do things to replace smoking such as eating raisins, drinking water, exercising, and so on.

Smokers Have Rights Too 25 min. color
A political aid has a smoking problem, and to complicate it, one of the Congressmen has asked for his input on a bill that would extend the rights of public buildings to have non-smoking sections. He argues that smokers have rights too. Not until he witness the effects of smoking on people in the form of emphysema does he realizes that the only rights smokers have is to breath fresh air, and he eventually kicks the habit himself.

Secondhand Smoke Revised 20 min.
An updated version of the first film to address the serious health hazards of sidestream tobacco smoke, Secondhand Smoke Revised combines humor with scientific fact to demonstrate that tobacco smoke increases the risk of lung cancer and heart disease in non-smokers. In addition to showing smokers how their habit harms those around them, it urges nonsmokers to defend their right to breathe clean air. Designed originally for school children, thousands of organizations from smoking cessation clinics in hospitals to business wellness programs have successfully used this video.

Poisoning Your Children 12 min.
This video shows parents, grandparents, educators and others the importance of not smoking around children. Dr. Snyderman, medical correspondent for ABC News, presents disturbing statistics on the harmful effects of secondhand smoke on children. Just as baseball is an American tradition, so is using smokeless tobacco. This video examines tobacco use in baseball and shows how athletes have replaced smoking to chewing tobacco, because they think it's safer. What they don't know is that it is equally as dangerous in that it cause mouth cancer instead of lung cancer. Nolan Ryan tells why he doesn't use tobacco and doesn't want you to either. Kids are interviewed on why they chew tobacco and are informed on how dangerous it is. Shows the effects of mouth cancer on people in the form of pictures.
